Civil War Memory Walk Brings Together Officials and Former Combatants in Beirut

15 April 2024

On Monday, 15 April 2024, Fighters for Peace invited the Minister of Information Ziad Makary, the Mayor of Beirut Marwan Abboud, MP Ibrahim Mneimneh, representative of the Lawyer´s Syndicate Mr. Labib Harfouche, as well as representatives of the media and the parliament to join former combatants from the Lebanese civil war on a walking tour along the former demarcation line from the National Museum to Beit Beirut. The ex-combatants were telling their testimonies of things they had experienced during the war at specific locations along the route.

Through the walking tour, Fighters for Peace does not only want to commemorate the 49th anniversary of the Lebanese civil war, but wants to raise awareness about the dangers of renewed conflicts. During the testimonies, ex-combatants explained that civil war always means bloodshed, suffering and tragedy and a loss for everyone involved, and should therefore never be repeated. Inside Beit Beirut, the official representatives and Fighters for Peace had the opportunity to express these concerns in front of the media representatives.
