From War to Dialogue: A Conversation with Fighters for PeaceAs part of the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Lebanese Civil War, a dialogue session titled "From War to Dialogue" was held with the participation of Fighters for Peace, bringing together personal testimonies and collective reflection.
Former fighters and members of the association, Assaad Chaftari and Ahmad Matar, shared their powerful stories — from taking up arms to laying them down, and their journey toward peace and reconciliation.
The conversation focused on key themes:
Why did they take up arms?
Why did they choose to abandon violence?
How did they confront the violence of the past?
What role can youth play in reconciliation?
How do we deal with memory, accountability, and forgiveness?
The testimonies were followed by an open discussion with the audience, encouraging deep reflection on the past and promoting dialogue as a foundation for sustainable peace.
