From War Trails to Paths of Peace in Baisour

31 August 2025

In Baysour, hills that once witnessed some of the fiercest battles of the Mountain War between 1982 and 1989 have been transformed into open trails for walking, reflection, and dialogue. Under a joint initiative with the Baisour Cultural and Sports Association and the Union of Upper West and Al Shahar Municipalities, locals and guests explored Souk El Gharb and Aitat, rewriting the narrative of spaces once defined by conflict.

Voices from across communities—Druze and Christian—shared testimonies, emphasizing that past pain can be channeled into lessons for the future. Ceremonies included visits to the town’s Martyrs’ Monument, where wreaths and plaques marked the commitment to unity, and Druze Sheikhs recited prayers in honor of those who fell. Leaders and participants alike reflected on the necessity of national reconciliation, joint development, and the creation of shared memorials that recognize the sacrifices of all communities.
