German President Steinmeier Meets Fighters for Peace at Beit Beirut

17 February 2026

Within the framework of the official state visit of His Excellency Bundespräsident Frank-Walter Steinmeier, President of the Federal Republic of Germany, to Lebanon, Fighters for Peace was honored to participate in an official meeting at Beit Beirut - Allo, Beirut ?

During his visit to this symbolic site of memory, President Steinmeier and his wife Elke Büdenbender met with former combatants from Fighters for Peace for a substantive discussion on the legacy of the Lebanese Civil War, the importance of preserving collective memory, and the shared responsibility of building a peaceful and inclusive future.

The meeting highlighted the profound personal transformations of former fighters who have chosen dialogue and reconciliation as a path forward. Fighters for Peace presented its ongoing initiatives in peacebuilding, memory preservation, and youth engagement — efforts aimed at preventing the recurrence of violence and strengthening a culture of nonviolence in Lebanon.

We extend our sincere appreciation to the German Embassy Beirut for facilitating this official meeting and for their continued support of dialogue and peacebuilding initiatives in Lebanon.

Fighters for Peace remains firmly committed to fostering responsible engagement with the past as a foundation for a more just, unified, and peaceful Lebanon.
