We were honored to participate in the inaugural session of the 50th anniversary commemoration of the Lebanese Civil War, focusing on women-led intergenerational dialogue and reconciliation efforts at the community level.
Representing Fighters for Peace, Alia Mikdad and Zainab Kain shared powerful personal testimonies about their journey into the war — what led them to become involved, how they found their way out, and how their lives were transformed through the work of the NGO. Their stories highlighted the deep impact of memory work, healing, and grassroots peacebuilding in Lebanon.
This session shed light on the importance of oral history in archiving women’s lived experiences as leaders, carers, victims, and survivors of conflict — and reaffirmed the need to deal with the past as a path to an inclusive and peaceful future for all.
